Donkey Kong Again?

Anyone Going to Address the Elephant in the Room?

September 7, 2012

Election Day is soon ahead and everyone is buzzing about who is going to win the election. On one hand you have Democratic nominee, current President of the U.S., Barak Obama. On the other hand, you have Republican candidate, Mitt Romney. Both are fighting hard on their campaigns and recently held their national conventions this week. But, was all the buzz really about what their speeches were about or was a lot of the hype around their celebrity supporters or lack thereof?

At the Republican National Convention, the most talked about supporter was Mr. Dirty Harry himself, Clint Eastwood. Eastwood gave a drawn out speech which is rumored to have gone eight minutes over than planned (reports say the red light was flashing ferociously at him). His speech included him conversing with the invisible man (Obama) in turn making him appear as though one flew over the cuckoo’s nest. Thanks Jack!

At the Democratic National Convention, Eva Longoria and Scarlett Johansson showed their support. Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones also are two stars showing their support for the Obama party in their states. We all remember four years ago when Oprah was the big celebrity who spoke openly about her support for our President. She was so good that she could have run and won!

It seems very strange to me that the last election as well as this one has been so publicized in a more celeb fashion. Yes, Obama does have a celeb squad. Let’s call it what it is. But, is it because of his high profile supporters that sway the younger Americans to vote in their favor? It is a decent argument I must admit. I think it would be a very strategic move. Heck, if I were running for President I would want every celebrity available on my side!

As of last night both candidates were tied 46% to 46% on voter’s poll. I honestly was shocked. I thought for sure that Obama would be well over 50%. Obviously only time will tell, but with all the heat Romney is taking right now with taxes and questions about his honesty (he is a politician…come on!) you never know what can happen.

Just remember, base your vote off of your own beliefs and opinions, not your parents, co-workers, spouses, or George Clooney’s! All in all, just vote!

  1. Chastity,
Interesting observations! You are right; we all need to do our own research and vote intelligently. That said, did you see Jimmy Fallon as James Taylor singing at the DNC convention?
